Setup
Preparing the recording space
- Turn on the electricity for the Vicon cameras
- Shut the curtains completely
- Start up Shogun Live
- Turn on the TV screen and duplicate the Shogun window to the screen
Preparing the actor
- Find a suit that fits the actor
- Setup the markers on the suit as follows (a Frontwaist10finger marker setup):

- Setup the finger markers as follows (make sure to press the bases down on the nails):

Check system health
- Check for errors for the cameras. Hovering over the error symbols will give more info.
- Check for reflections in the camera view. Make sure all markers are out of any camera’s view and that there are no large reflections present. Hide anything reflective if necessary.
Calibrate
In the Camera calibration tab
- Mask all
- Wave all
The cameras indicate when you are done calibrating them:- No or purple light: needs calibration
- Green: this camera is done calibrating
- Blue: all cameras done calibrating
- Volume setup
In the Tracking tab
- Turn off all Props and Subjects
- Create a new subject by following these steps (even if the actor was previously calibrated):
- Template: frontwaist10fingers
- Name: any name without special characters
- Create subject
- Let the actor do an A-pose (see suit diagram, but with relaxed fingers)
- Click Accept A-pose
- Have the actor perform the alphabet and move around until all joint values are green in Shogun Live
- Click Stop Calibrating
- What if markers are missing?
Count to ensure there are 73 markers total: 53 on the body and 10 on each hand. Check placement; Shogun will indicate misplaced or missing markers. - What if bones are missing in the warning tab?
Ensure the actor is in the middle in an A-pose. If still an issue, markers are likely misplaced. - In Properties, select the skin:

In the Capture tab
- Select the correct recording folder or create a new one (use format:
dd-mm-yyyy) - Capture Name:
ROM - Start capture, have the actor perform the alphabet again
- Stop the recording
- Open Shogun Post
- Open the
.mcpfile for the ROM you just recorded - In the Subject Setup tab, click Subject Setup
- In the Subject Setup window, go to Retargeting, then in the top left, open a previous retarget named
RPM:
- Go into map mode:
- Click Align Skeletons
- Move and scale the purple skeleton by its hips only until wrist positions match
- Unscale
- Update offsets
- Exit map mode
- At the top of the Subject Setup window, click Retarget over Playrange
- Review the retargeted animation
- Save the retarget setup with a memorable name
- Close Shogun Post and reopen Shogun Live
- In the Tracking tab, select the actor and go into Properties (ensure only one actor is enabled and highlighted)
- Select the saved retarget under Retarget
Automatic recording
- Make sure the PC is connected to the
vislab_wifinetwork - Run the
Vicon_websocket.batscript
